THE STER CONFERENCE

The STER conference is unique in that it is designed, led and delivered by education students for education students. It is a pioneering initiative designed with the main goal of supporting education students to share their research with the wider education community. The STER conference focuses on the theme of "Education Research: Insights, Innovation and Inspiration" and features individual presentations by students and graduates on their dissertation research, spanning early years, primary, post-primary and further education.

2025 Call for papers

We hope that this year's conference will be of interest to all attendees, by providing some insights into the field of education research and some inspiration and innovation for those students beginning their own research journeys.

presentation

Oral presentations are 12 minutes including time for Q&A. Presentations focus on research topic, design, findings, experience of engaging in research and advice for peers starting the research process.  Participants are required to submit a 200 word abstract about their presentation.

Poster

Poster presentations are a visual display summarising a research project. Posters can incorporate images, text and charts. A poster template will be provided to help with design. Posters should be printed in colour and laminated. Participants are required to submit a 200 word abstract and display their poster at the conference.

Symposia

Symposia are a collection of presentations. 3 students can work together to give a 30min symposium on one theme. Each student should prepare a 6min presentation and allow 12 minutes for group discussion at the end. PowerPoint slides can be used. Participants are required to submit a 200 word abstract about the symposium.

Sound-boarding

Sound boarding is an opportunity for students who are just beginning their research (e.g. developing a topic and research question) to share their ideas in a short 3 mins introduction and to get advice and feedback from peers. The purpose is to start a conversation about the topic and share ideas, policy and literature to progress the research design.
